Castle Heidecksburg exists in its present look nearly since 1735. In that year it was burning like very often in the last times in the castle Heidecksburg.

From the court of Castle Heidecksburg also until today a tunnel is crossing the building of the castle down to the town Rudolstadt. In former times people went by horses through that tunnel, passing the . "Alte Wache" - like a door, today tourists and inhabitants of Rudolstadt go by feet this way.
