
Rudolstadt is an ancient town at the base of Schloss Heidecksburg (Heidecksburg Castle).
Heidecksburg Castle is steeped in tradition. It is located prominently on the banks of the
Saale River and surrounded by a lovely German landscape.
Rudolstadt was first mentioned in 776. It received its' town charter in 1326 from the Dukes
of Orlamuende and was granted to the Schwarzburgian Dukes a few years later.
Rudolstadt became the residence of the principality Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt in 1571.
